Geography

Welcome to the Geography department

We encourage pupils to think positively, to take interest in the subject, and to develop geographical skills.

In our teaching we hope that our pupils broaden their general knowledge . We hope pupils will appreciate other people’s way of life as well as respect for the environment.

Courses:
In Years 7 - 9 pupils follow KS3
In Years 9 -11 GCSE
In Years 12-13 AS and A2 levels

Facilities:
We have two refurbished Geography rooms.

Autumn Term

To provide a stable foundation in Geography, the first term at The King’s School concentrates on developing map skills. To achieve this, pupils use a wide variety of maps and undertake cross-curricular activities with the ICT area.

Spring Term

During this term pupils study two industrial areas:- The Black Country and Stoke-on -Trent. Here pupils look at the changing patterns of industry. The Black Country is chosen specifically as many pupils are from this region.

Summer Term

In view of the recent crises surrounding farming it is important pupils are aware of where and how food sources originate. Pupils spend time looking at different aspects of the industry.

Fieldwork will be carried out in collaboration with the RE and History areas.
