Welcome to the History department

AIM:

To help students understand some of the changes that have taken place in the last 2000 years, and the events that have helped to shape our modern world.

To develop evidence handling skills.

FACILITIES:

The department is based in Rooms 19 & 20 and has access to the school computer network and the Internet via 15 computers in Room 20.

Topics covered in Year 7:

THE ROMANS

Understanding of chronology (how we date the past)
The origins and growth of the Roman Empire
Life in the city of Rome
The decline of the Empire
Understanding the range of evidence from the Roman period

To develop an understanding of the impact of the Romans in Britain.

THE MIDDLE AGES

The Norman Conquest
Development of Castles
Life in the Middle Ages
The Black Death & Peasants
Revolt



KS3
In Years 7,8 & 9 History has 2 lessons per week.

The students are taught the following National Curriculum Units:

Year 7
The Romans
The Middle Ages

Year 8

The Making of the UK (ie Tudor and Stuart families)
The Native Americans

Year 9
Britain 1750-1900
The Twentieth Century World

KS4
GCSE Modern World History has 3 lessons per week.

The topics are:

Britain in the First World War

International History
1919-1963

Russia/USSR 1914-1941

Germany 1918-1939

Plus 2 pieces of coursework
