Music and Music Technology is taught to key stage three students, GCSE, and at Advanced level.  In Key Stage three, students receive one fifty minute period of music per week for half of the academic year, and two periods of music per week for the other half of the academic year.  At key stage four students receive three periods of tuition per week, rising to five periods for key stage five.

keyboardThe newly built music suite contains two teaching rooms, four practise rooms and a well-equipped recording studio.  Each room is equipped with electronic keyboards, which are supplemented by a wide variety of additional resources including acoustic and electric guitars, and a wide variety of tune and untuned percussion instruments.

Music RoomThe department has fourteen music computers running ‘Cubase SX’ and ‘Hypersonic’ software, and also uses ‘Reason’ and ‘Sibelius’ software within the key stage five curriculum.  In addition to this we operate ten computers with Cubasis/Cubase VST for computer sequencing at key stages three to four.  Our recording studio includes multi-track facilities for recording to ADAT and CD, complemented by a range of mini-disc porta-studios.

The department is visited by a team of peripatetic staff from Wolverhampton Music School and offers free lessons to all students on a range of Woodwind, Brass, String and Percussion instruments.  In addition to this we also offer guitar lessons to our students, also free of charge.  We offer a wide range of regular performance opportunities for our students and run a variety of extra-curricular activities including an Orchestra, Rock Band, Gospel Choir, Composition Club and Jazz Group as well as various chamber ensembles.
