Sports College
Welcome to the Sports College page. Since receiving our Sports College status in 2004 we have continued to develop our students self esteem through the development of physical confidence.
It has always been our aim to stimulate and maintain student interest in P.E. and to promote health and fitness for current and future lifestyles. Our students are taught to develop a range of desirable personal qualities such as politeness, perseverance, initiative and independance.
We encourage pupils to see P.E. as a major feature in our lives related to leisure, employment and culture.
Curriculum
- At Key Stage 3 students study games, swimming, gymnastics, atheletics and dance.
- At Key Stage 4 students follow a course of core P.E. and have the opportunity to study GCSE P.E. & GCSE Dance.
- At Post 16 level students have the opportunity to study P.E. & Dance to As & A2 level.
- To enable pupils to be familiar with a body of knowledge, principles and vocabulary related to P.E.
- To enable pupils to see P.E. as:
. A major feature in our lives related to leisure, employment and culture.
. Part of a wider body of knowledge and skills, e.g. interpersonal and problem solving skills (to include analysis and evaluation of P.E. issues).
- To enable pupils to understand:
. And use safe practice and to appreciate its importance in P.E.;
. The short and long term effects of exercise on the body;
. The role of exercise in a fit and healthy lifestyle.
- To enable pupils to develop a range of desirable personal qualities such as politeness, perseverance, initiative and independence. The establishment of pupil self esteem through the development of physical confidence is a major aim of the Department.
- To enable pupils to work independently and as part of a team in varied activities, so as P.E. contributes to the development of core skills such as communication by speech.
