BTEC ArtworkDuring this course you will have the opportunity to:

Explore, develop and design ideas, learning to realise outcomes in a more vocational context.

The course has a more vocational element than GCSE. This means you will learn the skills you need to work in the Art, Design and Craft industries, and you will work alongside professional artists. You will know what you have to produce for a final piece as you will be set design briefs by clients.

During the course you will study the following topics:

  • 2D & 3D visual communication
  • Contextual references in art & design
  • Explore & Develop art & design ideas
  • Produce art & design outcomes
  • 2 additional units

During the course you will be expected to complete the following assignments/pieces of coursework:

This will include a combination of both creative and written work. There will be 6 detailed projects, each based on the topics above.

As the course consists of 100% coursework, including 10 hours of controlled conditions, there will be a running programme of assignments to complete both at school and at home.

The examination board in this subject is: Edexcel

The levels of entry available to you in this subject are: Level 2

The assessment for this subject is: 100% coursework and is equivalent to 4 GCSEs A*-C grade.

Who should study this subject?
Students who have achieved a high level at the end of KS3 may opt for this course over GCSE Art & Design. It is worth the equivalent of 4 GCSE’s and is therefore a good choice for any student considering a career in the Art & Design industry
