To be ‘ in business’ can mean an enormous variety of things and different people will have different perspectives of what business is all about.

Learners will be surrounded by different businesses every day of their lives: businesses that create things; businesses that deliver or sell products and/or services; and businesses that support other businesses. To add to the complexity of the situation, the business world is never static. Industries can grow and decline. Owners and managers must therefore develop a keen awareness of their business environment and how this can be managed to the best advantage for different purposes.

Business Studies introduces learners to the range and variety of business activity to be found in their local community and at national, European and global levels. They will cover such topic as:Business

  • Human Resources
  • Customer Services
  • Marketing
  • Finance & Accounting
  • Production
  • Communication
  • Personal Selling
  • Operations

During this course you will study the following topics:

Unit 1 - Business and its environment
Unit 2 - Human Resources
Unit 3 - Production
Unit 4 - Marketing
Unit 5 - Finance & Accounting

As part of the examination process you will be expected to complete a piece of coursework. In the coursework you will expected to use your knowledge of business Studies to demonstrate the ability to select information in response to a problem or situation, make decisions and evaluate those decisions.

The examination board in this subject is ICAA/CCEA

The levels of entry available are:

FOUNDATION HIGHER
C-G A*-D

Coursework: number of pieces: 1 - 25% of Final Marks
Final Examination: number of pieces: 1 - 75% of Final Marks

Who should study this subject?
Pupils who have a desire and passion for business should choose this course whilst studying for other GCSEs’. This is a theory based course with an examination at the end.
