YEARS 10 AND 11 - WHAT CAN I CHOSE? |
|
In Years 10 and 11 you will spend much more of the week studying subjects that you have chosen. These are what we mean by options. There are some – quite a few - subjects that you have to study. These are sometimes called the core. Even within the core there are some choices and differences. What do I have to do? You have to take examination courses in English, Maths, Science, RE, ICT and a Language. You also have to do some non-examination courses including Citizenship and PE. (PE and RE are also available as full examination course in the options columns.) You also get some choice about which Language (including Community Languages) to do. Because we are a Specialist College, there is an expectation that all students do a specialist subject at Key Stage 4. What can I choose to do? You have to choose four other GCSEs, or a BTEC (level 2) and two GCSEs to go with the compulsory subjects. In addition students may choose to do a Diploma or embark on the REAch Programme. These are arranged in columns, so that you can choose one from each column. That means that there is a limit on the combination of subjects you can take, but everybody has already had the opportunity to express their preferences through the straw polls that have been done in class. There are rules about what you can choose. For some individuals, level two qualifications are not yet appropriate. A new more relevant level one course will be made available for these students, which ensures they achieve formal qualifications and have progression routes into further and higher education. Parents will be notified where this applies.
