During this course you will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of:
- the ways in which ideas and feelings are communicated through drama
- a range of drama forms and skills and how to use them in practical work
- plays and scripts and how language is used
- how drama is discussed and evaluated
During the course you will study the following topics:
- working from stimuli (e.g. text, poetry & photographs)
- theories of drama
- acting skills
- studying scripts
- criticism of drama
- components of performance drama
During the course you will be expected to complete the following assignments/pieces of coursework:
- a series of workshops based on 2 pieces of text or other stimuli
- a series of workshops based on a play that is studied
- written notes and written work completed under supervision
- a complete performance of a play before an audience
These contribute to your final examination grade. In addition, you will be expected to complete extension work that is relevant to your course of study. The extension work may be practical, research, developing roles, rehearsing and/or written work. This will help you to build up knowledge and techniques essential for successful examination performance.

Paper 1 – Drama Coursework
Unit 1 – Practical and written work looking at a theme
60% (40% practical 20% written)
Unit 2 – Practical and written work looking at a play
Paper 2 - Drama Performance
A play that you perform for an examiner and an audience 40%
