During this course you will have the opportunity to:

Gain extensive experience in reading, writing, speaking and listening, and to develop skills in a variety of ways for different purposes and audiences.

During the course you will study the following topics:

Reading

- non-fiction and media
- poetry from other cultures; pre 1914 and post 1914 prose
- a play by Shakespeare

 

Writing

- to inform, explain, describe
- to analyse, review, comment
- to explore, imagine, entertain
- to argue, persuade, advise.

 

Speaking & Listening

- drama focused activity
- group activity
- individual extended contribution

 

 

During the course you will be expected to complete the following coursework assignments to produce a combined folder for English and English Literature:

Original writing – continuous writing to explore, image, entertain
Shakespeare
Prose study – pre 1914
Media – writing to analyse, review, comment

These will all contribute to your final examination grade. In addition you will be expected to complete homework relevant to your course of study on a weekly basis. Your homework will help you to build up knowledge and techniques essential for successful examination performance.
