During this course you will have the opportunity to:

Improve and develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in German. The foundations of either language will be developed in KS4. Topics are often revisited but studied in greater detail. There is a focus on exam technique and study skills.

During the course you will study the following topics:

  • Everyday activities eg: home, school life, diet, health
  • Personal and social life eg: local area, shopping, hobbies
  • The World Around Us eg: my town, places of interest, holidays abroad
  • The World of Work eg: jobs, work experience
  • The International World eg: media, world issues, tourism, and environment

During the course you will be expected to complete the following assignments/pieces of coursework:

2 pieces of written coursework to be completed in Year 10 & 11
A total of 250-300 words for grades G-D and 500-600 words for grades A*-C

2 speaking tasks completed in Yr 10 &11. These could be a presentation, discussion or interview type task.

These will contribute 30% each to your final examination grade and it is vital that they are completed. In addition, you will be expected to complete homework relevant to your course of study on a weekly basis. Your homework will help you to build up knowledge and techniques essential for successful examination performance.

The examination board in this subject is: Edexcel

The levels of entry available to you in this subject are Foundation or Higher.

The assessment for this subject is:      
Coursework: number of pieces 2 30% of final mark
Speaking tasks: number of pieces 2 30% of final mark
Final examination: number of exams 2 40% of final mark

Who should study this subject?

All students in sets 1-5 will study this subject unless they opt for Urdu or Panjabi.
