During this course you will have the opportunity to:

Consolidate your understanding, increase your confidence, extend your mathematical vocabulary, develop your ability to think and reason mathematically and realise the application of mathematics in the world around you. There is a progression of material through all levels at which the subject is studied. This course therefore builds on the Key Stage 3 Programme of Study.

During the course you will study the following topics:

Irrespective of your ability you will study topics from the four broad areas of Mathematics – Number, Algebra, Geometry & Measures, Statistics.

Topics within these will include the following:

Problem solving, Numbers and the number system, Calculations, Solving Numerical Problems, Equations, Formulae and Identities, Sequences, Functions and Graphs, Geometrical Reasoning, Transformations and Co-ordinates, Measures and Construction, Specifying the Problem and Planning, Collecting Data, Processing and Representing Data.

During the course you will be expected to complete the following assignments/pieces of coursework:

No separate pieces of coursework are now required for Mathematics. This element has now been absorbed into the written examinations, in the form of problem solving and functional skills.

The examination board in this subject is: AQA specification B

The levels of entry available to you in this subject are:

Foundation – Grades C - G
Higher – Grades A* - D

The assessment for this subject is:

Three written unit exams. Each unit exam consists of one paper, a calculator is allowed with some and in others its use is prohibited.

Unit 1 Statistics & Number
(26.7% of GCSE)
Unit 2 Number & Algebra (33.3% of GCSE)
Unit 3 Geometry & Algebra (40% of GCSE)
