OPTIONS - AN INTRODUCTION

Back to the Index page.

Dear Parent/Guardian

Option Choice

I have pleasure in offering you a copy of the new King’s School Prospectus for the Key Stage 4 curriculum. Although the national curriculum has removed most of the dangers of students making choices that may restrict career decisions, there are still a number of options offered where you are asked to express a preference for certain subjects. We will do our best to meet these preferences, although it may not be possible in all cases. Choices should be made on the basis of abilities, interests and, if possible at this stage, with an eye on a possible career. It is very important that students embark on a programme of study at a level appropriate to their ability.

Students have spent some time looking at their own strengths and weaknesses and the choices available. In March students will be issued with their option choices form. They will complete this in the PSHE lesson but bring it home for you to see and sign. In the interim several straw polls of students’ option choices will be undertaken so that we can establish the most appropriate subjects.

All Curriculum Areas have been busy looking at their courses to try to make them all as interesting and relevant to students as possible next year. Additionally, you will be aware of some improvements in accommodation and equipment which we have recently put into the school.

I am proud that many of our initiatives are continuing to be successful in taking The King’s School forward as a centre of learning excellence.

Yours sincerely
