CHOOSING YOUR OPTIONS AND CHOOSING A JOB |
|
Most people in year 9 have not yet decided on the career they want to follow when they are older. Don’t worry! Many adults find that they make changes to their chosen career path as they go through life. It is most important to be flexible and adaptable. If you make broad and balanced choices you will be able to keep many paths open to you as you think about the future. In PSHE you have been thinking about the sort of person you are and your preferences, skills and abilities. You will want to bear these in mind as you look at the choices on offer. What you have found out about yourself may influence the choices you make now and in the future. Bear the following in mind: English and Maths are important for just about every job you might want to do, and for getting into higher education. A knowledge of science and technology is important to understand and participate in the modern world, and a valuable asset to most employers. Modern Foreign Languages play an increasing role in daily life, especially in business and communications. You never know where you will end up working in the future! To go on to do AS levels and higher education you generally need good grades in 5 different subjects. When you choose option subjects you should think about the subjects in which you could be most successful. During the course of Key Stage 4 all students take part in a programme of Careers Education which is delivered through Citizenship. Careers guidance is available though the school and through the Connexions Careers service in Year 11 when students will have an interview with the school’s Careers Adviser. Ruth Quirke our Connexions Adviser, can also be seen in school. In addition, all students take part in a 1 week Work Experience at the end of Year 10.
