14-19 TRANSFORMATION |
|
You may have heard in the press about the reforms to the 14-19 Curriculum. We embrace this transformation, as we believe our students should be able to choose from a range of courses and qualifications covering a wide range of subjects and skills from 14. At the King’s School we have already embarked on many changes to the Key Stage 4 curriculum, including the introduction of vocational qualifications and Diplomas in Years 10 and 11. We aim to provide a curriculum that enables students to develop essential skills for life and work. Additionally, our curriculum encourages students to be able to analyse, develop problem-solving skills and have the confidence to explain and defend their ideas. We have extended our vocational offer by introducing the REAch Programme, a BTEC Level One Course in Vocational Studies, and Certificate Of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE), which increases the breadth of our provision. From September 2010, students will be able to do a Diploma at either level 1 or level 2 in up to eleven subjects. Working in partnership with other schools and training providers will enable us to strengthen our work-related provision. This will ensure our curriculum is suitable for students across the whole ability range and promote progression through Foundation to Intermediate and Advanced Levels. We are introducing new guidance and support arrangements so that we can help students make the best choices. Such help should also raise a student’s aspirations and motivation, overcoming barriers to learning. On the following pages there is a brief guide to CARD ‘Choose A Real Deal’ which is a initiative originally launched at The King’s School in September 2004. CARD is a key component in the transformation of 14-19 education and aims to raise student attainment, self-esteem and motivation. H. Lowbridge
