WORK RELATED LEARNING

Back to the Index page.

It is planned to offer this opportunity to a small group of students, who staff believe will benefit from this method of learning. Work related learning is a method of giving certain students a curriculum appropriate to their individual needs. It is a practical way of learning a variety of basic skills in a working situation.

Work related learning is a set of planned activities that uses work as a context for learning. It is intended that these students will go out on extended work experience for 1-2 days a week. The placement will be carefully suited to the interests and needs of the individual student. They will be monitored in the work place and progress tracked. This is a carefully planned development of the student’s curriculum needs.

While on work experience the student will be studying towards a relevant NVQ. This will help the student become more aware of how business and industry work, by practical experience. When back in school they will study the underpinning knowledge required to produce a NVQ portfolio in the relevant subject.

It is important to note that students will also study all the core subjects required to complete GCSE in Maths, English, Science and ICT Key Skills.

In Year 10 all students take part in one week of work experience.
